Pete and Repeat

The boys are growing leaps and bonds. On Sunday I noticed that they were beginning to stop thinking about whether to crawl or walk at times and just walk. They are taking 8, 9, or more steps at a time now. Aaron has even started to get frustrated when he can't figure out how to get up on his feet to walk without using something. He wants to do it himself so bad! They are also starting to do much better with taking their milk from sippies. They will take a portion of their milk in the sippie at each mealtime. The remainder is still in the bottle in order to get them to take as much as they would if they only had bottles and no sippies. Our pediatrician said our goal was no sippies by 15 months and I think that seems doable. The boys turned 13 months on Saturday.

It was so cute yesterday. I taught A the sound that a dinosaur makes. Of course I tried with E too, but he just laughed at me. I would ask A "What does a dinosaur do?" and then roar, he would then give me a little roar back. Too adorable. We called daddy at work and let A show him what a dino does too. I am really trying to make a conscious effort to point out what things are and show them things in books as well. It is so hard to know if what they are saying back to you is their version of what you say to them. E seemed to be trying to say book back to me yesterday, but I couldn't tell for sure.

It is hard to believe in such a short time the boys will be walking and talking like they have been doing it all of their lives. Look out world E&A have places to go and things to say!!!!

All Is Well That Ends Well

The boys are doing great! Sunday night we put them to bed a bit later than usual in hopes that it would help them sleep a little later. We then fed them at about 11:45PM, since they couldn't have anything after midnight. They ate their bottles and never even woke up. At about 5AM they both started stirring a bit. We were able to give them their pacifiers and sooth them. Then we brought them both in bed with daddy and I a little later. It took awhile for them to go back to sleep, but they finally did. They ended up sleeping with us until my alarm went off at 7:15AM. We placed them in their beds so we could get ready and get their things ready as well. They woke up not long after that. We had to be at the surgery center at 8:00AM, so all in all the morning was off to a good start.

Everyone at the surgery center was very kind and loved the boys. They said they were the cutest twins they had treated. They had balloons in their room for them to keep them occupied. Unfortunately the only glich was that they had an unexpected emergency surgery and they were about a half hour or more behind. They provided us with a wagon to wheel the boys around. Finally it was time for Ethan's procedure. When they hauled him away he was perfectly content. Dr. Dugan came in and he started playing with her necklace. They also took his blankie with him and the balloon. When E was taken to recovery, they came to get Aaron. He played with Dr. Dugan's necklace and was perfectly content when they took him back as well. Soon after Ethan was brought back to us. He was crying and a bit disoriented. I gave him his bottle right away. He continued to be fussy until he fell asleep just before they discharged us. A on the other hand just wanted to snuggle. He was snuggling with the nurse and Marc took him and gave him his bottle and snuggled some more. He then played with his balloon and daddy until we were discharged. He only cried when Marc dressed him, which he does pretty much every day!

E slept out to the car, while being put in his carseat, and all the way home. My parents were nice enough to be at our house when we got home since Marc was going to work for the afternoon. The boys played with Grammy and Papaw for awhile, ate, then took a nap. E was fussy again for a bit after nap, but other than that the afternoon was fairly typical. To top it off we put them to bed a little early last night since they were a bit off on naps and they both slept the WHOLE NIGHT. Not a peep until 5AM!!! I don't remember the last time I didn't have to get up at least once to put a pacifier in.

It is hard as a parent to know that your children need surgery at such a young age. This was our boys second as they had to have their circumcisions redone. Many of my friends and neighbors are experiencing lots of earaches with their children currently. If tubes are needed, I would say don't hesitate. It is a procedure that has been around for sometime. It takes literally about 5 minutes. Our boys didn't even have to be put under antestetic. They only received gas. But most of all, who knows how much suffering our boys endured prior to this procedure. Dr. Dugan informed us after each of their surgeries that each of the boys had one ear that was very near rupturing. E had a blood vessel that burst and probably released some pressure so his eardrum did not. A actually had somewhat began the rupturing process. Some fluid had been released and the spot had started to scale over. Fortunately neither of them have any permanent damage. Both boys were back to normal by the afternoon, if not sooner. They ate well and played the rest of the day!

Thanks to our friends, neighbors, and family who called, prayed, and offered support. You are all so very thoughtful. I love you and appreciate each of you! An extra thanks to my neighbor Krista for making us a meal and ensuring that I did not have one more thing to take care of yesterday. Also, my parents, we couldn't do it without you two!

Visitors

I can't believe a whole week has passed! This week has gone fast and slow at the same time. They all seem to go that way anymore. We haven't been getting out a lot lately with all the germs, ear infections, and cold weather. Hopefully after Monday we will feel a little more compelled to be able to leave.

Saturday my parents came up to visit. The boys always enjoy visitors, especially Grammy and Papaw. Ethan took three steps to Papaw. Later this week he took a few to daddy, me, and Aunt Meme. Aunt Megan has decided she will be called Meme, because that should be easier for the boys to say. Monday my friend Katie and her kids came over and today my friend Jessica and her little girl came over. The boys love playing with other kids.

Ethan and Aaron interact more and more all the time. The other day they were playing peek-a-boo. They were just laughing at each other and having a great time. They have also began wrestling a bit. Earlier this week was their first official little wrestling match. They were having fun with it. Sometimes however one or the other is not so pleased about the idea.

So I am not so nervous about the boys' tubes being put in, but I am nervous about no food after midnight. We have to be at the surgery center at 8:00AM. E's procedure is at 8:30AM and A's is at 8:45AM. I think it is going to be a long morning! The boys usually get up for their first bottle between 4:30-5:30AM. Should be interesting! Please keep the boys in your prayers.

Road to Recovery

We have had a fairly uneventful past few days. We have just been trying to stay in and stay warm. It is currently 8 degrees. Of course we had to go out today, the coldest day of the week. We ventured to the ENT's office. The doctor was terrific. Ethan was the only one on the schedule, but she saw Aaron too and said let's make this easier for mom! E had a right ear infection and A had a double ear infection. Poor boys! E has been suffer with ear infections since the beginning of November. They did a test to see how much fluid is in their ears as well as hearing tests. Each of the boys had to wait with someone from the office while I went with the other for his hearing test. The both sat nicely, played, and waited. They are such sweet little boys!

They are both scheduled to get tubes in their ears on 1/26/09. Once they have tubes they should have less ear infections, less discomfort while laying flat, hear better, and possibly better balance (there don't seem to have any balance issues). If they aren't walking by the time the tubes are put in, I bet they will be soon after! The doctor let me know that both of the boys top four teeth are coming in. Just as Ethan's bottom two popped through first, it looks like his top right ones will as well. I have to say I loved the ENT. She was so helpful. She even pushed the stroller down the hall while I carried the boys things. In addition she did a great job explaining what was going on and couldn't have done a better job interacting with the boys. Neat lady!

Last night after the boys went to bed I had the pleasure of meeting with the women's group and Bible study I am a part of weekly. I am so blessed to have such wonderful friends and sisters in Christ!

Our Birthday!

The boys were born 12/31/07 at 9:22A (Ethan) and 9:24A (Aaron)! They celebrated one year on New Year's Eve. Marc and I took them to Red Robin and they had a fabulous time. They had macroni and cheese, ICE CREAM, and the waitresses sang to them. On 1/3/08 they had their first birthday party. Much fun was had by everyone. Here are some pics of their fun filled day!

Two Steps

Daddy stayed home from work yesterday while Mommy continued to recover. Generally we don't watch TV or movies while the boys are up, but yesterday we made an exception and used our movie room in the basement. Both E and A have decided that it is time to begin exerting their independence and truly check out their surroundings. Aaron is slightly more apprehensive and sees danger from time to time. Ethan is somewhat fearless. We have learned that A does not enjoy being thrown in the air (at least not too high), E begs for more if you stop. Yesterday E stood on top of a toy aircraft carrier, found the outlets, and terrorized the 10ft. movie screen. Both boys know what "no" means, but are still learning that no really means NO. Ethan would go toward the screen, look when we would say no, and then keep going. Marc and I are exploring what makes him take us seriously. Aaron on the other hand would hear us say no and more often than not get a sheepish look, view the screen, look at us again, and ultimately find something else to do. It is so interesting to see their personalities unfold.

As these personalities unfold, Marc and I are learning that are hands are going to be fuller than they ever have before. Sunday night Ethan took his first two steps, both individually with encouragement. Then yesterday, Aaron took a step on his own and Ethan took two individual ones without encouragement, simply getting where they wanted to go! Look out Dittmer residence. Daddy had to put the latches on the cabinets over the weekend as well. E is not pleased!
